Variously known as the Longtown Earthquake, the Gretna Earthquake, the Boxing Day
Earthquake, ... Explained by some as the effects of over indulgence on Christmas Day!
Damage was varied: falling chimneys and chimney stacks, roof slates displaced, wall
plaster cracked, etc. There was a long series of after shocks into January 1980. An
