The clock actuates a music barrel which plays the carillion in the tower. The bells are mounted in a vertical frame; suspended for chiming, not on wheels for ringing. The music barrel was fitted in the 1890s? A hand chiming frame is still in place, but no longer connected to the bells.

The tunes played are (were?) - on Sunday, Devotion by T Scarisbrick of Kendal; Monday, Kelvin Grove; Tuesday, The British Grenadiers; Wednesday, All Through the Night; Thursday, When the King Enjoys His Own Again; Friday, Garry Owen; and Saturday, There's no Luck About the House.
The bright blue electric motors for winding the clock, and for running the music barrel were fitted recently by W Potts and Sons, Leeds.
