"... proceed through Little Stainforth to STAINFORTH FORCE, which lies about fifty yards south of the bridge over the Ribble. This pretty cascade is formed by a succession of steppes or ledges in the strata which form the bed of the river, until it ends in a fall of six or seven feet."
