Page 381:-  "The depths in the docks and basin given below are those when there are depths of 30 feet (9m1) over the sill at the entrance to Ramsden basin."

"Devonshire dock is entered from Buccleuch dock, through a passage which is 80 feet (24m4) wide with depths of 28 1/4 feet (7m2) over the sill; this passage is crossed by Michaelson bridge, a bridge which opens, known locally as High Level bridge. The dock has an area of 32 1/2 acres, with depths at the berths of from 18 to 30 feet (5m8 to 9m1)."
"There is an entrance to the docks from Walney channel at the north-western end of Devonshire dock, through a basin having an entrance which is 60 feet (18m5) and has depths of 25 1/2 feet (7m8) over the sill"
