hearsay:-  
Across the road from the cross by Anthorn, is a two story building, windows on all sides.
One tale has it that Mary Queen of Scots was held prisoner here for a night in 1568 on her way south.
Another tales is that the tower was built as a studio for Mary Backhouse, an artist, 1850s.
And there are said to be tunnels from the village to the tower ...
