After trouble with trains crossing the viaduct in storms, 26 February 1903, and following
a recommendation of the Board of Trade, a wind pressure gauge was mounted on a sandstone
plinth at the west end of the viaduct. This was connected to signal boxes at Plumpton
Junction and Cark, where a bell rang if the pressure rose above 32psi. A paper recorder
was included in the apparatus. It was disused from 1970s. |
