"House, formerly colliery office. Circa 1836 with mid C19 additions, for Earl of Carlisle's collieries and the lessee, James Thompson. Hammer-dressed calciferous sandstone with red sandstone quoins and dressings; hipped Welsh slate roof, red brick and stone chimney stacks. Single storey, 2 bays with off- set parallel extension to rear of similar details. Plank door has rusticated surround with hood mould. Double sash windows with glazing bars have similar surrounds and hood moulds. Collieries mostly closed by NCB in 1953. Listed partly for G.V. with nearby Kirkhouse Farmhouse."
