notes:-  
The first blast furnace was erected by Thomas Ainsworth, 1842. Coal and iron ore are found locally. The blast furnace was fueled by coke, made in beehive overns nearby. The blowing was powered by steam? There wer eventually six blast furnaces, replaced by three of greater capacity. Ceased operating 1929.
