Report of a meeting of the Society of Antiquaries, 8
January 1852:-
Mr. C. R. Smith also exhibited a drawing of the head of a
female seated figure, excavated by Mr. H. G. Potter at
Birdoswald. The head is draped and crowned with a wreath,
and the body enveloped in ample vestments. Mr. C. R. Smith
considers the figure to represent one of the Deae
Matres, or possibly the Magna Mater.
