| hearsay:- |
Sunk on land bought from Alston Brewery Co, using an existing mine sump. |
|
| The shaft housed a hydraulic compressed air system, a Hydromat system, installed 1903-05.
The system was driven by water from a reservoir and involved an air intake on a steel
tower by the top of the shaft, and air receiver, pelton wheels, compressors, etc at
the bottom. The compresed air was piped into the mines as a source of power for drilling,
hoisting and pumping. |
