This is described by Peter Haining as producing two long fissures 'into which houses
and cattle sank', and that the Gentlemen's Magazine reported it with a violent shock
and explosion. I have been unable to trace the report in the Gents Mag. |

The earthquake report was declared to be a hoax in the Newcastle Chronicle, 13 March
1790. |
