| hearsay:- |
This area was the village pond. It was drained in the 1930s when piped water came
to the village, and was then used for grazing. A small rise to the east was the location
of the stocks, known as Stocks Hill. |
|
| In early spring The Tarn was alive with mating frogs, whose noise kept the villagers
awake. Mawty Thomlinson used to get so annoyed that he'd fired his shotgun over the
pond: this silenced them ... for a few minutes! The frog's chorus was known as Mawty's
Band. |
