photograph
BMP24.jpg  The track goes right; to the left, 'straight on', is Low Sadgill, only.
The corner round the barn end is tricky for vehicles - the farmers do it without trouble, others shouldn't be trying, they are just a noisy and smelly nuisance to walkers.

photograph
BMP25.jpg  The gate has no name, it's just the 'gate by the barn'.
Beyond the gate, tucked in on the right is an area full of blackberries; this was a sheepfold.

photograph
BMP26.jpg  Immediately a stiff climb.
(taken 12.9.2006)
photograph
BMP27.jpg  The garden on the left, and the paddocks on the right, belong to Low Sadgill.

BMP28.jpg  From here on the right is Sadgill Wood.

BMP29.jpg  Sadgill Wood on the right for quite a way.
(taken 12.9.2006)
photograph
BMP30.jpg  One of several rills out of Sadgill Wood, that cross the track; quiet in the picture, but it can get seriously out of hand. The track now goes level (well, ups and downs) by the wood.

BMP33.jpg  The rill here has a waterfall off the road on the left, and prettier falls in the woods to the right. When wet it much more exciting! The close immediately on the left is Middle Field, and further away, on the left, Hoghouse Field. The hog house, which was also used for cattle, is beyond the gate on the right, under the impressive sycamore tree.

BMP35.jpg  And now a gentle climb again.
(taken 12.9.2006)

BMP36.jpg  A small rill crosses just ahead, with picturesque falls and trees to the right in Bank close.

BMP38.jpg  Getting steeper. Up the brae on the right is a large badger set.

BMP39.jpg  Grassing Gate into Tills Hole Grassing, part of the Cocklaw Fell area.
Alternative routes meet here: to the left up to Skeggles Water etc; to the left and then over the wall, down to Tills Hole. The Stile End path continues slightly to the right.
Notice the pink stone underfoot, this is rhyolite.

photograph
BMP40.jpg  The track climbs more steeply onto the fell, at first alongside Tills Hole Grassing. The sheep are Swaledale belong to Sadghyll Farm, Middle Sadgill and Tills Hole farmed together; red M on near side rib.

photograph
BMP42.jpg  The pink stone is a pink rhyolite in the Coniston Limestone Series or Windermere Group; there are several outcrops.

BMP44.jpg  Keep your eye on the rocks in this rough climb, various stuff in the Coniston Limestone Series or Windermere Group, including limestone. Some of the rock is tipped up making hard jaggety ridges, lovely for walking! worse for the unwanted vehicles.

BMP51.jpg  The pile of stones marks the high point of the track, about 1100 feet. The view into Kentmere starts to appear; Wray Crag to the right.

BMP52.jpg  Wray Crag; the Land Rover belonged to a waller busy working on one of the Cocklaw Fell walls.
(taken 12.9.2006)
photograph
BMP53.jpg  The track divides: straight on through the gate is to Stile End; through the kissing gate to the left is to Green Quarter.
The fence marks the parish boundary, Longsleddale / Kentmere.
