The Whitehaven and West Cumberland National Hunt meeting began 23 April 1878. The events included: Open Hunter's Flat Race, won by Golden Pippin owned by the Duke of Hamilton; Border Cup, won by Ancient Mariner owned by Captain Maxwell; Open Hunter's Chase, won by Ancient Mariner owned by Captain Maxwell; County Cup 'Chase; Consolation Stakes.
Racing here ended 1890.
